The
suspension of micronized Salbutamol and propellants inside the
container of the Spray Laríngeo Salbutamol, together with the
nasopharyngeal cannula, originated this brand new therapeutic product
that permits a direct application with exact dosage capabilities on
target organs in lower respiratory airways in sports equines.
Horses
with lower respiratory airway inflammations: acute bronchial
obstruction SAID, RAD, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases),
EIPH (exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhage) or any of these diseases can keep on training with the application of Spray Laríngeo Salbutamol by means of its nasopharyngeal cannula.
These
sprayings are applied directly in the pharyngeal cavity with a flexible
cannula through the nasal passages. The pharynx performs as an
expansion chamber for the big drops to deposit thus permitting drops
smaller than 3 microns that stay in suspension be carried by the
inspiratory flux into the lungs. This spray can also be applied
intra-tracheally using a special needle accessory.
Spray
Laríngeo Salbutamol (Albuterol), due to its propelling force with fine
drops, is the only device that allows the exact application and dosage
on the bronchi and bronchioles.
The
suspension must be used only locally through the spray. Its
nasopharyngeal cannula allows direct application and dosage by spraying
the lung region.
Apply 20 minutes before exercise or immediately in acute bronchial obstruction. The effect lasts for 4 to 6 hours.
Easy to use:
Introduce the cannula, forward through the ventral meatus until
reaching the zone to be treated; shake well and attach the canister,
extend the equine's head, close the nostrils briefly to induce a
slightly profound inspiration and press twice. Detach the cannister,
re-shake, re-attach and repeat the procedure with the next inspiration.
FORMULA:
Each dose (1 puff) contains 200 mcg of micronized base Salbutamol in
pressurized container, with dosing valve and nasopharyngeal cannula and
adapter for intra-tracheal application.
Excipients and propellants for 60 doses.
(Discard canister after 60 doses).
THERAPEUTIC USE:
Spray Laríngeo Salbutamol is a selective agonist of beta-2 adrenergic
receptors of de bronchial smooth muscle. Salbutamol produces smooth
muscle relaxation in the lungs (big bronchi, bronchi and bronchioles),
remarkably improving breathing. When applied at therapeutic doses it
produces bronchodilation with scarce or no side effects on cardiac
beta-1 adrenergic receptors.
Salbutamol
inhibits immediate and late bronchoial obstruction and prevents acute
bronchial obstruction induced by exercise and exposure to triggering
factors (sulfur dioxide, cold air, etc.). Bronchodilation is almost
immediate and lasts from 4 to 6 hours.
INDICATIONS:
Especially indicated for equines presenting acute bronchial
obstruction: SAID, RAD, COPD (Chronic obstructive Pulmonary disease)
EIPH (Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage), pulmonary emphysema,
bronchoconstriction induced by exercise, acute and chronic bronchitis
and in cases of bronchial hyper-reactivity in equines that are
hypersensitized to dose allergens triggering acute bronchial
obstruction.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION:
Extend the equine's head as far as possible, and with the use a twitch,
introduce the cannula trough the ventral meatus of the nasal cavity to
the pharynx.
Shake the canister energetically before use and attach the cannula.
Hold the canister upside down with the arrow (label) pointing upwards.
Cover the nostrils of the horse to make it hold its breath for about 15 seconds.
Release the nostrils and when the inspiration starts, press the valve twice (2 puffs) thus delivering 400 micrograms.
Shake again and repeat the operation with the next inspiration,
performing 1 or 2 more puffs so as to complete the dose prescribed by
the Veterinarian (600 or 800 micrograms). This way, the pharynx and the
trachea are used as an expansion chamber and deposit the bigger
particles, thus leaving those particles smaller than 3 microns in
suspension, diminishing resistance from de upper respiratory airways,
carrying the particles deep into the lower respiratory airways by the
inspiratory flux. The treatment must be applied 30 minutes before
exercise, and the effect last from 4 to 6 hours.
In the case of acute bronchial obstruction, apply immediately.
INTRATRACHEAL ADAPTER (sold separately):
If using the intra-tracheal special needle accessory, introduce a 18/21
gauge x 1'' in any intercartilaginous area of the trachea. The needle
must be kept longitudinal to the trachea.
When taking the needle out of the trachea (a septic means) some microorganisms may deposit on the subcutaneous tissues.
This featured accessory is for exclusive use by Veterinarians and is sold separately.
THE
FOLLOWING STEPS MUST BE FOLLOWED WHEN USING SPRAY LARINGEO SALBUTAMOL
IN ORDER TO MAKE CERTAIN THAT THE CORRECT DOSAGE IS APPLIED. IT IS VERY
IMPORTANT THAT THESE STEPS BE TAKEN TO INSURE THAT THE SALBUTAMOL
REACHES THE BRONCHIOLES.
- Spray
Laríngeo Salbutamol must always be applied with the canister in
inverted position (with arrow on label pointing up) and always held in
vertical position (not inclined).
- Shake Spray Laríngeo Salbutamol thoroughly.
- Apply twitch to upper lip.
- Place the head of the horse in the same line as the neck.
- Connect the cannula to the canister.
- Introduce half the cannula through one of the nostrils.
- Cover nostrils to stop breathing for a short period of time in order to induce a slightly profound inspiration.
- Shake again and introduce the cannula completely.
- Release
nostrils and when breathing begins, press twice (2 puffs). This
releases 400 micrograms. (the "puff" does not make any noise and cannot
be heard)
- Extract the cannula halfway and shake again.
- Reintroduce
the cannula completely and apply two more puffs during the next
inspiration, thus completing the dosage with a total of 800 micrograms.
The
cannula and the adapter for the intra-tracheal needle must be washed
through with a green cone needle (21 g) after it is used. Shake the
cannula to remove excess water and leave out to dry, then disinfect.
The blockage caused by accumulation of medication could cause an
incorrect dosage, therefore, it is important to keep the cannula and
intra-tracheal adaptor needle clean.
